HSforBC Barn Cat Program
We are devoted to saving the lives of all cats in our community and believe that all cats can find appropriate and safe placement options when we work together with caring community members.  The HSforBC barn cat program reaches out to those with a working barn, warehouse or other safe, heated outbuilding. Having a barn cat or cats will help keep down the rodent population. The cats will be helping the property owner, while the property owner provides the cats with a safe place to live. And, because these cats are already spayed/neutered, the property owner won't have to worry about endless litters of kittens appearing!
Not all cats are happy being confined inside a home and this program gives those cats a safe option. The Barn Cat program also finds safe and appropriate placement options for shelter cats that have behavior or personality quirks that don't make them ideal as indoor pets, such as extremely poor litter box habits or shyness/fear of people. Cats could be placed in big barns, small barns, sheds with a cat door, riding and boarding stables, garages, offices, and landscaping nurseries. HSforBC will not adopt cats who are suitable to be house pets to barns, any cats that are declawed, ONLY cats without other options.  HSforBC may not always have barn cats available for adoption.

Any cat that is part of the "Barn Cat Program" will be spay/neutered, Rabies vaccinated, and will have their left ear tipped (notched) which is the universal sign that a feral/outdoor cat has been spay/neutered. Interested barn or warehouse owners must agree to continue to care for the cats (daily food, water, shelter from the elements, and long-term veterinary care) for the remainder of their lives. All barn cat kitties must be provided a secure place to keep them for the first 2-3 weeks, while they acclimate to the barn. This can be a tack room, or any secure indoor enclosure that they cannot escape from.  (HSforBC may lend an introduction cage if no secure area is available, and a cage is available.)  HSforBC reserves the right to visit and inspect the proposed barn cat housing to assure the cat's health and safety.

The program is always in need of safe locations for cats. If you could consider adding one cat or several, we would love to talk to you.  Since many of these cats thrive on the company of other cats, HSforBC offers a $10 discount off the total when adopting more than one barn cat at one time.  A completed adoption form is required and please note "BARN CAT" on the form.
Cost:  $35
